ICASA Pay TV hearings to start soon

The ICASA hearings into Commercial Satellite and Cable Subscription Broadcasting will run from the 28 th of May until the 12 th of June, with Telkom, Sentech, SABC and others fighting it out for a license.
“The hearings follow an Invitation to Apply that ICASA issued in January 2006 calling on interested parties to apply for commercial subscription broadcasting licences. In 2005, the Authority published the Position paper on subscription broadcasting services which set the framework for the licensing of all subscription broadcasting services.”
ICASA received eighteen applications from various television and telecoms operators, including SABC, Deukom, Goal Technology Solutions, Sentech, Multichoice Africa and Telkom Media.
