Real time updates tested by Facebook
2011-06-13
Facebook claimed it is experimenting with a Twitter-like feature Facebook on Fri. stated that it is experimenting with a Twitter-like feature that alerts members in realtime to what their chums are up to on the social network. The feature, allegedly called "Happening Now," is being attempted by a "fraction of a percent" of Facebook's more than six hundred million members, according to the world's top web social network. "We are presently testing a feature inside Stories Feed that gives folk the facility to see what their buddies are commenting on and 'liking,' as these actions are being taken on Facebook," the California company declared in an e-mail answer to an AFP investigation. "In the approaching weeks, as we learn more from this test, we will keep making enhancements and may expand it to more people." The feature was seen by some as a potential challenge to worldwide microblogging service Twitter, which can let folk share what they are thinking, doing, or seeing immediately in messages of 140 or less characters. The new Facebook feature for the moment reputedly alerts folk to what buddies are doing at the social network.
